WindGrid's work highlighted in UK–Germany Joint Declaration at the North Sea Summit 2026
A notable outcome of the North Sea Summit in Hamburg - where Europe reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening its energy independence through coordinated cross-border grid development - was the UK–Germany bilateral Joint Declaration of Intent.
This declaration places specific emphasis on offshore hybrid interconnection between the two countries. The UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE) signed an agreement to reinforce their partnership and deepen cooperation on North Sea renewable energy infrastructure, explicitly referencing HansaLink as a key project of significance.
This declaration underscores the relevance of the work WindGrid is driving. It is significant that HansaLink, as one of the EU’s Projects of Mutual Interest (PMIs), promises to unlock significant benefits from coordination between UK and Germany, highlighting our strategic role in advancing this shared vision.
